Day 13 - "Beach Litter"

According to the results of a survey published today the amount of litter on Britain's beaches has increased by more than 90% since 1994.

I can't say I have noticed much more waste being washed up or simply left on the beachs at Troon. However there is still an obvious problem with some people thinking it is perfectly acceptable to throw their garbage into the sea.

This photo was taken today along the rocky section of beach at the Ballast Bank in Troon not far from where I took Swallowed by the Sea. Why does it always seem to be a Coke bottle or can?

It is disturbing. Where I am, there is a lot of trash that comes through the winter along the sides of the interstates. There are volunteer groups that each take a section of highway and bag everything up. It just makes you feel better as you drive by after it is cleaned up.

I've got a question...how many will see the trash, be disgusted, but then leave it for "whoever is in charge of cleaning up." Yesterday, I picked up a wrapper on the ground that was at a private business place. But, I hesitated before I did, weighing out whether I needed to do such a thing. Many times I don't. I used to work on golf courses where trash blowing around cannot be tolerated. As I drove by some, I would always say to myself: "If I don't pick it up, no one will." Probably a good thought to take into our everyday life. (Sorry about the ramble.)

Litter is very ugly. Here in Australia (Perth), I find the place extremely clean and tidy and remarkably litter-free in all the nice places. However, there are some places where litter is unfortunately still part of life and common-place.
Thought-provoking and interesting addition to your theme.
